Australia Day Award

Geofrey Matthew Irvin recognised by RSLWA

Congratulations to our President, Geof Irvin, who has been honoured, alongside our future military leaders at RSLWA’s 2021 Australia Day and Cadet of the Year Awards, in recognition of his significant contributions to the community while encompassing the values that RSL stands for.

Vietnam Veteran, Geof (President of Kalamunda sub-branch) has elevated his mission to share the legend of ANZAC with younger generations to an art form.  There are nearly 30 schools in the City of Kalamunda and Geof, along with other members, regularly participates in school visits for ANZAC ceremonies.  He is a keen supporter of educating students about the ANZAC history and spirit.

Geof has taken a special interest in the Secondary & Primary Education Support Centres in Kalamunda and arranged for the club to sponsor two students each year in various activities, along with providing uniforms if their families couldn’t afford them.  This support is reciprocated, with school volunteers recently weeding and tidying up the Kalamunda sub-branch gardens.  Geof visits the schools quite often to serve in the canteen or give talks to the students.  Geof has been a driving force of our sub-branch over an long period and is always interested in promoting the RSL.  For the past couple of years he has organised a free community concert to promote the RSL, with Normie Rowe as the headline act.
